Rhythm Kids (4-8 years)

Rhythm Kids Online

The logical "next step" in musical development after Mixed Ages classes! For ages 4-8. Djembe drum encouraged, but a box or tabletop works too! Tuition includes a weekly 30 minute Zoom class, recorded for on demand viewing, plus a weekly pre-recorded 30 min class, songbook, CD and digital downloads,  and an invitation to our end of semester Zoom Dance Party. The Kangaroo Collection features drumming patterns inspired by the Australian Didgeridoo. We'll learn a traditional song and "sit-down dance" from the Torres Strait Islanders called "Taba Naba", and with "Hand in Hand" we'll explore body percussion and sing a three-part round. We'll jam and solo-sing to the reggae beat of "Every Day's a Good Day" and, of course, have lots of fun moving like "Krazy Kangarooz!" All 22 songs in this collection have been chosen and arranged specifically to support each student's music development.  Rhythm Kids is just the thing our kids need to encourage them to start making music with friends. By the end of the semester, they'll be proud to show off what they've learned: to you, their friends and teachers, and-let's face it-for some kids, every person they meet! During this time of online learning, our Rhthm Kids might just gain a pen pal too, as they take class with kids from Pikes Peak Music Together as well as our far-away friends in British Columbia and Washington!

Rhythm Kids Online guides children toward developmentally appropriate music and movement activities, where they can begin to take charge, lead others, and be musically creative, as they:

  • make up their own drumming patterns

  • invent new ways to play rhythm instruments (shakers, sticks, etc.)

  • create movement ideas for songs

  • and even take a drum solo!

    Your child will:

  • Explore the world of rhythm through movement, instrument play, and song

  • Develop basic rhythm skills, like keeping beat, improvising, ensemble play, and soloing

  • Learn to create, cooperate, and express themselves musically
